Approaching his 111th birthday, Hobbit Bilbo Baggins begins writing down the full account of his adventure 60 years earlier for the benefit of his nephew, Frodo, and thus begins the three-part prequel to The Lord of the Rings. One day, the young Bilbo is paid a surprise visit by the wizard Gandalf the Grey and twelve homeless dwarfs, led by their former king Thorin, and decide to reclaim their mountain home and recover the Kingdom of Erebor and the treasure previously stolen by the dragon Smaug. The group have to fight against Trolls, Orcs and other mystical creatures, and then Bilbo meets Gollum and finds his lost gold ring which gives the wearer the power of invisibility.
