Elena Alekseeva is a film and games composer, pianist and music producer working across various musical styles and genres from classical music to electronic music.
Growing up in Russia, Elena earned her first-class diploma in Classical Piano Teaching and Performance from the M.M.Ippolitov-Ivanov Institute of Music and Pedagogy in Moscow. The conservative classical education gave Elena a practical understanding of the classical musical traditions: harmony, polyphony, the orchestra and performance skills.
In 2012, Elena moved to Ireland, and in 2014 obtained her MA degree with First Class Honours from the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance. She also taught piano to undergraduates at the University of Limerick, Ireland.
After her masters’ degree, Elena switched her career focus from classical music to popular and electronic music production and composition. She was fascinated by music production’s technical aspects and challenged herself in other musical areas. In September 2014, she moved to England for her Doctoral Degree at the Royal Holloway, University of London. Her practice-based research is in music composition and sound design for fixed and interactive media platforms.
In 2015, she took a three-year associate lectureship position at Southampton Solent University, UK. She began teaching music theory, composition, and music for digital media (game music) classes for the BA students. From that job experience, she immersed herself on a new journey of exploration of underground electronic music styles and genres, their aesthetics and production, and the technical possibilities of interactive music. Being a professional instrumental player allowed Elena to operate freely with DAWs, such as Logic Pro X, Ableton Live, and Pro Tools.
In 2018 Elena started teaching at Point Blank Music School in London, where she successfully lead the Music Composition module and teaches the Advanced Composition classes.
HotHouse Music regard Elena Alekseeva as a leading figure in the ability to combine strong traditions of classical composition with games adjacent technology. Elena will be instrumental in driving audio-visual scores into 21st Century digital programming.
