Chagall is a Dutch electronic music producer, songwriter, singer, performer and music technology innovator.
Chagall is passionate about storytelling through combining natural voice elements with electronic technologies to create unique audio-visual experiences. Born into a family of feature film makers, Chagall van den Berg began scoring film at an early age.
Chagall produces all her tracks and handing much of the software development and programming herself to create audio-visual live pop music performances that reimagine the world of live electronica, visuals arts and choreography. Her work is supported by the latest sensor technology that she and her team develop in collaboration with several tech companies. With these new motion-based controller technologies she uses body movement to control all electronic sounds and visuals in real-time.
Inspired by the people around her, nature, ancient greek poetry, Björk, James Blake, Beethoven, Nina Simone and many others, Chagall writes deeply personal songs which are underpinned by a bed of wobbly basses and quirky sounding beats.
PERFORMANCES AND COLLABORATIONS
Chagall is currently working on a new project called ‘Unlocked’. This manifests as a pop music album in a synergetic light-art installation called B.A.B.Y. (Bionic Assistant for Becoming Yourself). While singing Chagall controls all musical and visual elements in this performance with the movements of her hands and body. She uses sensor-enabled gloves (MiMU), a full-body motion capture suit (Xsens) and specialised software to create music and lighting design in realtime.
In 2014 she joined the London music tech startup MiMU to work on the developments of the musical “MiMU Gloves” and their software Glover. She produced her first full length live set in 2017 with the MiMU Gloves that sent her all across the globe to give performances and tell her story of using sensor-tech in music to colleagues & students at events.
Chagall’s pioneering music technology performances have been presented at the following events and conferences:
- TEDx events
- South by Southwest
- Ableton Loop
- MUTEK Montreal
- Reeperbahn Festival
- Amsterdam Dance Event
- Sonar +D
- Dutch Design Week
- Nesta Futurefest
- Boiler Room.

In 2019 she created Advaita for which she turned the Xsens motion capture suit into a full body musical instrument. In Advaita live music, technology, visual and movement work together in harmony as all artistic elements are controlled by one thing: the performer’s body.
In 2021 Chagall collaborated with choreographer David Middendorp (Another Kind of Blue) to create an unique performance for the Dutch Royal Family with two human and twelve drone dancers.
Chagall is currently touring her latest project ‘Unlocked’ at venues and festivals across Europe. ‘At the heart of ‘Unlocked’ are nine visceral, synth heavy pop songs written during the pandemic of 2020. Chagall controls all music and lighting effects in the show in realtime through her gloves and costume, resulting in an organic and intimate interplay of the human body, voice, light and music.’
