In the following year John swiftly established himself in the Film and Television Music industry after winning the Tokyo Grand Prize and Best Soundtrack (at the Festival International du Film et de la Jeunesse) with his score for Harry Hook’s THE KITCHED TOTO. In the same year he won the 1987 British Film Institute Prize for Young Composer of the Year.

Further acclamation came with his first television commission of the popular series A VERY BRITISH COUP directed by Mick Jackson. John won a BAFTA nomination for this score which cemented his reputation as one of the leading newcomers on the scene.

John’s diverse style is evident in the range of Film and Television work he has written. His feature film scores include Gillies McKinnon’s HIDEOUS KINKY, SMALL FACES AND TROJAN EDDIE and Harry Hook’s ALL FOR LOVE. John has composed for a variety of high profile television dramas including more recently THE BRIEF and the epic series HORNBLOWER.

In addition to his on screen success John has been commissioned to write music for the concert platform. Collaborations include working with the internationally renowned Saxophone player John Harle who incorporated John’s music into his repertoire. In 2000 John was asked to compose a concert piece (cello and synthesiser accompaniment) with Mike Higham called CONFUSION. John’s working relationship with Mike Higham continues to this day with recent projects including a Working Title Television/HBO series called THE LAST OF THE BLONDE BOMBSHELLS.
